For more than a decade, the food pantry at Hall-Dale Middle and High School has been helping local students and families experiencing food insecurity. During its first 11 years, the program distributed more than 10,000 bags, and today, 27 bags go home with students every Thursday to help provide meals and snacks for the weekend. As the program has grown, so has its need for storage.
Last spring, Team Hancock’s Yarmouth location had an opportunity to help.

Hancock Lumber donated materials for new cabinets and shelving, while local contractor and Hall-Dale parent Troy Ireland volunteered time to help build the new storage. The result is more room to organize the food and supplies that support students each week. The Kennebec Journal recently highlighted the project and the people behind it.
“With the rising cost of housing, fuel and groceries, food insecurity has become a real concern for many Maine families,” said Ben Adams, Hancock Lumber Yarmouth General Manager. “When Hall-Dale reached out about upgrading their food pantry, Team Hancock was more than happy to help.”
For Team Hancock, projects like this are what being part of a community is all about. We’re grateful to Ben Adams and Troy Ireland for contributing their time and expertise and, most importantly, to the Hall-Dale team for all they do to support local students and families.
