Two Hancock Yarmouth Employees Recognized with Spirit of Excellence Awards

Hancock Lumber congratulates two of their long-time, Yarmouth employees after learning they’ve been honored with Spirit of Excellence Awards through the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce. Presented annually, this award recognizes non-management employees of Yarmouth businesses. Employees are nominated based on their commitment to their business, service as a role model, and their part in making a difference to the company’s success.

In nominating Bill Jordan, Sr. and Jim Tibbetts for the award, their manager, Harland Storey, wrote this about why they’re so deserving of being recognized:

Yarmouth CounterPro and Bill Jordan, Sr.’s daughter, Sarah, congratulates her dad on Facebook!

“These gentlemen have definitely earned this recognition. Jim and Bill set the standard for work ethic and customer service. If you are one of the early birds in the construction business in Yarmouth, then you see Bill and Jim regularly in the morning restocking the bins and waiting on customers.  They both come from a generation where working is a part of life and they get satisfaction from putting in a good day’s work.

Bill started at Hancock working for a temp company cleaning the yard. His work ethic stood out immediately, and Hancock Lumber hired him as a full-time employee–now, over 20 years ago. My estimation is that Bill has restocked more than 10 million feet of pine into our bins in Yarmouth. When Kevin Hancock wants feedback on the quality of our pine, he visits our yard and talks with Bill.

Jim joined Hancock’s team after he retired, wanting to work 20-25 hours a week. Jim had just turned 65 and felt like he still could do more than cut up 100 cord of firewood per year—so, he began working mornings at the Yarmouth lumberyard…that was more than 15 years ago! I think Jim has finally retired from cutting firewood, but he is still going strong at Hancock. Jim has a great attitude and is one of the healthiest people I know. Having employees like Bill and Jim contributes to Hancock Lumber earning the ‘Best Places to Work’ award six years in a row. Their friendship, dedication, and hard work set the standard for a fun and productive workplace. Thank you, Bill and Jim, for your commitment to Hancock Lumber and delivering world-class customer service!”
