Austin Brown

Receiver
Team Hancock Since May 2018
Location: Bridgton

Austin Brown

Austin has been described by his fellow employees as someone who, “ALWAYS, without fail, can brighten any day with his positive attitude.” His seemingly endless positive attitude has not only impacted our employees, but all of the customers that he engages. Other employees have described him as “always courteous” to our customers when he worked in the yard. As a Yard Pro for Hancock Lumber, responsibilities include keeping the yard safe and clean for customers and personnel and keeping all of the materials stocked up so we have what the customers want and need. Safety is always a priority.

“When I started here, I joined as a Yard Pro and then I moved up to Driver Pro. I drove for just over a year and now I’m back in the Yard Pro position. I like both positions, but Yard Pro suits me better because I like to stay active, busy with my hands, and I like walking. I like the customer service aspect, and I like being outdoors. They teach you a lot of things here–things I never thought I’d learn. I never knew half the materials that we have until I started working here. Being a Yard Pro is a great job—well, it’s a Best Places to work in Maine!”

A true Hancock brand ambassador, Austin exemplifies what every manager wants to have in an employee. He is an absolute joy to be around and no day is complete without hearing his customary “woohoo!” yelled out the window as he returns from a day of exemplarily customer service. Austin brings nothing but value to the Hancock name and brand!

In 2022, Austin became a Receiver at the Bridgton store.

This position is key to making certain the yard functions safely and focuses on accurate load building, customer service, and that product is handled efficiently, while maximizing our resources. This is one of the key operational leadership roles in the yard.

Peter Allen

Driver Pro
Team Hancock Since January 2008
Location: Windham

Pallen

I started out 13-years ago as a Driver Pro. First, I started in the pickup, then they got me signed off on a box truck and a flat bed, and eventually I was asked to move up to a boom truck. So now, I literally can drive every truck in our yard. Hancock Lumber’s safety program is number one. And, one of the main things is GOAL – get out and look. One thing that I like about this company is that as a Driver if you do feel that a situation is unsafe, they will back you and you can come back with the product and return another day when it is safe. When you see some of these places that you’ve delivered to and what they ended up looking like, they’re just beautiful and Hancock is a big part of that, which is awesome and rewarding. As a Driver we see the customers more than anybody. As a Hancock representative I want to make sure that every one of my visits to a customer counts in a positive manner. One of the things I like most about working here is the teamwork—everybody works together.

Inventory & Yard Manager

Location: Windham

Jesse Loura

I’ve been here at Hancock Lumber for 15-years. I started out building wall panels in our panel shop and transitioned into being an inventory manager in Windham. As inventory manager I’m responsible for protecting our assets, overseeing all the special order and stock products that come through our store. I like working at Hancock Lumber because of the people that I work with and I enjoy helping customers to make sure they get the correct product. I enjoy coming to work, interacting with people I work with, and communicating with people at our other locations. Here at Hancock we’re always looking for new employees that fit into our culture—people who are outgoing, always looking to do more, learn more, and want to grow with our us.

Dylan Blackman

ProFinish Facility Supervisor
Team Hancock Since September 2012
Location: Casco

Dylan Blackman

At the age of 19 Dylan was looking for a job that would lead to a career. At that time, a good friend’s father recommended he apply to Hancock Lumber. With only having three years of part-time grocery store experience, the manufacturing setting was a shock—physically demanding and fast-paced.

Dylan remembers having a difficult time moving a single board around while he watched the veteran pros make it look effortless on his first day. Frustrated, yet motivated, Dylan embraced the work and leaned on the incredible team atmosphere to advance and grow. Co-workers encouraged him with tips and tricks to help make the job easier, and most importantly, safe. Before long, Dylan started to get the hang of making and packaging units of Hancock Pine. After a couple years Dylan realized he was in the best shape of his life and able to keep up with the employees he admired from day one.

Fast forward to 2021, Dylan is now a NeLMA certified, award-winning grader, a teacher, a leader, an outdoorsman, and a husband. What does the future have in store for Dylan at Hancock Lumber? Dylan could see himself becoming a planer mill manager or continuing his education to keep up with the new technology and systems planned for the future.

In 2022, Dylan became the Supervisor at the new Casco ProFinish paint and stain facility. Later that year, Dylan was promoted to the supervisor of the Planer Mill in Casco.
