Bright Wood Visits and Tours Hancock Lumber Operations

Last month Hancock’s sawmill team hosted our Oregon customer, Bright Wood—and, wow, was it great to have customers back in Maine! Sawmill team members Aaron Schulte, Matt Duprey, and Jack Bowen welcomed members of the Bright Wood team to the Pine Tree state to tour our Bethel and Casco eastern white pine manufacturing facilities.

Bright Wood team visit

Dallas, Kevin, and Tim from Bright Wood visited Team Hancock from Oregon for a tour of our eastern white pine operations

Based out of Madras, Oregon, Brightwood is the largest independent manufacturer of window and patio door components and engineered dimension lumber in the United States. A multi-faceted company with several plants in Oregon, they operate a segmented business with a large piece being secondary manufacturing. For Hancock Lumber, Bright Wood has been an integral part of our sawmill business and strategy for the last two years.  Their company values eastern white pine for its best attributes—drying, stability, ease of working with it in their secondary manufacturing, and the availability of product we have to deliver to them.

“Thank you for your hospitality. We are excited for the next chapter in Bright Wood’s legacy and developing a close relationship with Hancock Lumber. This is going to significantly change the wood window industry.”

–Dallas, Bright Wood President & CEO

Our two companies’ cultures and business mentality match up almost perfectly.  Strong cooperative relationships from sales all the way through production are an integral part of our success. We also both have a high level of trust in each other’s’ companies. Bright Wood employs 1,170 people across four locations in Oregon and processes an enormous volume of wood each year.

“I would like to express my appreciation for all the wonderful hospitality shown to us by the entire Hancock group, but especially to Jack, Matt, and Aaron.  You have a very impressive organization with many dedicated and professional people.  The visit was very informative, and all the support from the Hancock group was tremendously helpful.  We were unable to catch up with Russell, but please pass along our appreciation for his dedication over the last couple of years in making the Bright Wood and Hancock business relationship a successful one.”

–Kevin, Bright Wood Vice President

The Bright Wood team traveled to Hancock Lumber for a variety of reasons. From expanding their current business to looking at the fiber we breakdown from log to lumber, meeting with our team to share their vision and future plans to seeing how our mills are set up, looking at additional opportunities across other grades, to working on long-term strategies of growth. Undoubtedly the relationship grew stronger following this investment of time here in Maine. Team Hancock prides itself on strong customer partnerships and are so thankful the Bright Wood team visited our operations and spent time with our people.

“It was a pleasure to meet the Bright Wood team during their visit to Maine.  They have a very impressive company and we are fortunate and excited that they have such a long-term interest in Eastern White Pine.  We look forward to partnering with their company for many years to come!”

–Kevin Hancock, CEO
