The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a non-profit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable way.
Landowners and companies that sell timber or forest products seek certification as a way to verify to consumers that they have practiced forestry consistent with FSC standards. Consumers wishing to support healthy forests and communities should look and ask for the FSC label when purchasing wood or paper products.

2009 Stimulus package good for green.
First-time Homebuyers and remodelers alike will benefit from the 2009 stimulus package passed by Congress in January.
For remodelers, many Energy-related home improvements that will be placed in service between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 are now eligible for tax credits up to a total of $1,500. Several Hancock Lumber product lines, such as Andersen Windows, Therma-Tru doors, and Green Fiber Cel-Pak insulation include products which qualify for the credit.
In addition to the remodeling credits, Congress has increased the tax credit for first-time homebuyers to $8,000 – no repayment required. Many first time home buyers (including those building a new home) may qualify for a tax credit equal to 10% of the cost of a new home purchased on or after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009.
